The small Macedonian city of Gevgelija, located southeast of the country in the bordering region with Greece, is becoming a gambling paradise due to the construction of many large scale casinos on its territory.

Gevgelija has a strategic location in the region, bringing together the center and the south of Europe through a motorway which connects the city of Skopje and other 3 former Yugoslavian capitals (Belgrade, Zagreb and Ljubljana) with Thessaloniki (the second largest Greek city).

This Gambling paradise, as some have named it, is currently under construction and it is expected that it will become the Balkans’ “Las Vegas” in a really short time. Large scale projects are being built right now alongside the city, including hotels, casinos and amusement parks, which are changing the look of the region rapidly.

It is estimated that over 1 thousand people are employed by the casinos and many more work for the services associated to them, this has changed the employment reality of Gevgelija, where unemployment is not an issue. The largest casino built until now is the “Flamingo”, which demanded and investment of 30 million Euros.
